One family's vacation took a terrifying turn this week during their trip to the Willis Tower's popular attraction "The Ledge" on the building's 103rd floor.

While sitting on the clear glass ledge, the glass beneath the California tourists began to crack and shatter.

Despite the scary scene, a Willis Tower spokesperson sent word to NBC Chicago assuring everyone that the family was never in danger:

"A spokesman for Willis Tower said that what cracked was a protective coating on the glass structure and not the glass itself. 'This coating does not affect the structural integrity of The Ledge in any way. Occasionally, the coating will crack, as it is designed to in order to protect the surface of the glass,' said Brian Rehme."
