Josh Groban Freaked Out When Katy Perry Said He's 'The One That Got Away'

Turns out, you, me, and everybody else in the world weren't the only ones who were shocked when Katy Perry revealed her 2010 hit song, "The One That Got Away," was about Josh Groban.

"I was not expecting that," the “You Raise Me Up” singer said on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Thursday (September 20). "That was a double take and a spit of my coffee when I saw that." Adding, "I'm very flattered by it. But I was very surprised by it, too."

As fans know, Katy made the shocking confession during her weekend-long live stream last June. When she was asked to rank her lovers from best to worst, she called Josh “the one that got away.” Josh admitted that after hearing her say that, he "listened to the lyrics" again and still didn't think the song was about him. "I'm like, 'I never owned a Mustang. I don't have a tattoo. Are you sure that's about me?'" he recalled.

Despite denying their relationship in a 2013 interview with Details magazine — Josh said they were "very good friends" who "hit it off because we're both goofballs" — the 37-year-old singer finally copped to their previous coupling while on WWHL.  "We did [date]," he told Andy Cohen and fellow guest Queen Latifah. "We were both very private, and so we realized we were better as friends. And we've been very, very good friends to this day. She's the best."

When Andy and Queen insisted that Josh call Katy back to see what possibly could happen between the two, he replied, "I'm not ghosting Katy. We're still really good friends...I think we're both very taken at the moment," he said, referencing his relationship with Schuyler Helford and hers with Orlando Bloom. "But it's very sweet. It's very sweet. So, thank you for that question."
