Meghan Markle & Prince Harry Were 'Forced' Out Of 'Toxic' Royal Family

The Royal Family Attend Church On Christmas Day

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry shocked their family (and the rest of the world, TBH) when they announced they'd be stepping down from their roles as 'senior' working royals. Rumors a rift between Prince Harry and Prince William have been circulating for a while, though neither of the brothers ever fully confirmed the personal schism. Now, though, some royal insiders are spilling all the tea about Sussexes' historic decision.

According to People, a friend of Harry and Meghan's revealed that "if relationships had been better, things would have been different." Unfortunately, though, things got so bad behind the scenes over the past few years, the Sussexes felt they had no other choice but to step away from the royal family.“This is not how they wanted to handle this, but Meghan and Harry’s hand was forced,” the friend continued. “There is so much bad blood in that family—it’s toxic.”

Though the source didn't name any names, Meghan and Harry "didn't feel they got enough comfort or solace" from other members of the royal family, especially when the Sussexes struggled with the constant scrutiny and criticism Meghan faced from the British press. The tabloid drama reportedly left Meghan "deeply, deeply hurt."

The Daily Mail also spoke with a friend of the Sussexes, who revealed Meghan doesn't intend to live in the U.K. ever again. Instead, she plans on living in Canada full time with Archie from now on. "She doesn't want to raise Archie [in London], and she doesn't want to schlep back and forth. She'll make extended visits, but that's it," Meghan's friend explained. According to this friend, Meghan was "miserable in the U.K." and "wasn’t sleeping well and started having anxiety attacks about her future" after Archie was born back in May.

Meghan has reportedly been in Canada since Thanksgiving, except for a quick 3 day trip to London at the beginning of January for an official royal visit to Canada House with Harry. The Daily Mail reports she's looking for a country home in Whistler outside of Vancouver, as well as a full time residence in Toronto.
