Lady Gaga Returns To The Dance Floor With New Album 'Chromatica'

Lady Gaga returns to claim her crown with her latest album.

On Friday (May 29), Mother Monster made her hotly anticipated comeback with the release of her sixth studio record, Chromatica — and it’s a total dance floor affair from start to finish. The album delivers 16 songs, ranging from ballads to club bangers with a smidgen of ‘80s vibe, including collaborations “Rain On Me” with Ariana Grande, “Sine From Above” with Elton John, and “Sour Candy” with South Korean girl group Blackpink.

While Little Monsters want to dance their cares away to the sounds of “Plastic Doll,” “Free Woman, “Stupid Love” and “Fun Tonight,” Gaga breaks up her record with melodic instrumental intermissions that give way to nuanced, emotionally-charged tracks about overcoming hardships, as heard on “Alice” and “1000 Doves.”

With Chromatica, the Grammy-winning recording artist turns her spiritual tribulations into something listeners can lean on: a triumphant story of surviving the battle of being at war with yourself.

Speaking of her intentions behind the record, Gaga told PAPER Magazine, “I want to put out a record that forces people to rejoice even in their saddest moments. And by the way, I’m not standing over here with a flag going, ‘I’m all healed, everything’s perfect.’ It’s not; it’s a fight all the time.”

“I still work on myself constantly,” she continued. “I have bad days, I have good days. Yeah, I live in Chromatica, it took a minute to get here, but that doesn’t mean I don’t remember what happened. So if you’re in pain and listening to this music, just know that I know what it’s like to be in pain. And I know what it’s like to also not let it ruin your life.”
