Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner's eldest daughter, Violet, contracted a post-viral condition in 2019 and recently delivered a "rare" speech addressing the concerning health issue. According to Entertainment Tonight, the 18-year-old spoke about the importance of mask mandates during a regularly scheduled meeting of the LA County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday (July 9), citing "consequences of minor viruses."
"I contracted a post-viral condition in 2019. I'm ok now, but I saw firsthand that medicine does not always have answers to the consequences of even minor viruses. The COVID-19 pandemic has thrown that into sharper relief."
She continued, addressing an urgent need for greater availability of "free tests and treatments."
"One in 10 infections leads to long COVID, which is a devastating neurological and cardiovascular illness that can take away people's ability to work, see, move and even think. To confront the long COVID crisis, I demand mask availability, air filtration and far-UVC lights in government facilities, including jails and detention centers, and mask mandates in county medical facilities. We must expand the availability of free tests and treatment."
The community advocate concluded her speech by encouraging the citizens of Los Angeles to "oppose mask bans for any reason" as "they do not keep us safer, they make vulnerable members of our community less safe and make everyone less able to participate in Los Angeles together."
Symptoms of post-viral conditions, as reported by the Mayo Clinic, include memory loss, lack of focus, confusion, and lethargy, among other undesirable symptoms. Violet is Affleck and Garner's eldest child ahead of 15-year-old Seraphina, and 12-year-old Samuel. The exes maintain a successful co-parenting relationship with all three of their children amid various movie roles and relationships.
