It turns out that a lake frequented by many Instagrammers is actually full of toxic waste. USA Today says:
Residents of a city in Siberia donât need to fly off to tropical locales for picturesque selfies taken by pristine turquoise waters. Thousands of Novosibirsk residents â ranging from scantily clad women to newlyweds â have been busy Instagramming near a bright blue lake nicknamed the âSiberian Maldives.â
The lake is blue, however, due to a chemical reaction between toxic waste elements from a local power station. Environmentalists are warning people against coming into contact with the water.
Ewww. Yikes. You can see some of the photos and watch the video to see this "Siberian Maldives."
