Bird Strike Causes Emergency Landing Of Atlanta Airplane

As the weather is warming up, our feathered friends are making their cross-country journey from their winter homes. Seasonal migrations can give birds fatigue from long-distance flying and can cause a lot of issues for everyone in their path. A flight leaving Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Internation Airport had to do an emergency landing back "after coming in contact with birds during takeoff," Delta Air Lines said in a statement to CNN.

Delta Flight 2281 was supposed to arrive at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on Sunday night. However, a crew member reported a crack in the windshield from a bird strike. No one on board was injured and the plane was able to land safely back in Atlanta.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, "there are around 15,000 bird strikes reported every year with about 5% of them result in damage to the aircraft.
