Jasmine Cooper and her students are going viral.

Cooper is a dance teacher at CICS Wrightwood Charter School in Chicago. She choreographed a dance that she and her third- through eighth-grade students performed in a video that’s garnering widespread attention. Cooper — who also went viral in another video two years ago, when she danced while pregnant to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” — told ABC 7 Chicago that students had about three weeks to learn the routine, which is inspired by the Chicago-based movie “Candyman.” For this dance, she told the news station: “I wanted to do something totally new, and just come with some more fire, come with some more heat…” and she hoped that the students would be “really, really excited and engaged.”

The original horror film released in 1992. “The Candyman, a murderous soul with a hook for a hand, is accidentally summoned to reality by a skeptic grad student researching the monster's myth,” its synopsis reads on IMDb. A new “Candyman” movie released this year, serving as a “sequel to the horror film Candyman (1992) that returns to the now-gentrified Chicago neighborhood where the legend began,” according to IMDb.
