As Cook County authorities searched for carjacking suspects, they became victims of the same crime.
Officers of the Calumet City Police Department were searching for vehicle thieves when the police department’s SUV was stolen. It happened Tuesday morning (November 30) around 6:20 a.m. A spokesperson for Calumet City told local news outlets — including ABC 7 Chicago and NBC Chicago — that four armed suspects darted in different directions when police arrived at the Sibley Boulevard gas station.
When officers chased the suspects, one of them returned to the SUV and fled the scene in the marked police vehicle. he ditched the car — which was not damaged — near 99th and Green Streets and fled on foot from there. Law enforcement officials had not made any arrests.
