Día de los Muertos: After Dark

Join the National Museum of Mexican art for the final Día de los Muertos After Dark, when they’ll be open for extended hours until 8 pm.  Visit the galleries and take part in family-friendly creative activities in celebration of Día de los Muertos.  This month’s theme is Noche de Flores y Sabores.

They’re closing the After Dark series with two happenings! Join artist, Dalila Perez for a hands-on tutorial on paper flower-making. Museum curator, Dolores Mercado joins her to share the role that flowers play in Día de los Muertos across Mexico, going beyond the traditional marigold flowers that we are accustomed to seeing.

Guests can also join Bloomingdale’s Medinah Home Store Culinary Specialist, Gerardo Valadez as he whips up a scrumptious traditional Mexican dessert, Flan de Calabaza.  Attend this special cooking demonstration as he guides you step by step in creating this special holiday dessert using the best appliances and kitchen tools.

Chef Valadez will be sampling his Flan de Calabaza, chocolate tamales, conducting a Question and Answer segment, calling for audience participation and raffling off special prizes, including a private cooking class for 10, sponsored by Bloomingdale’s.

Raffle tickets are $10 per entry.

Admission is FREE, however space is limited and registration for both events is required. Register here for the paper flower making class, or register here for the cooking demonstration.  Registration closes Wednesday, November 29.
