‘Black Panther’ Rips Apart Box Office Records: 3-Day Opening Rises To $195M+; 4-Day At $227M+
Deadline Hollywood Reports:
Disney will be releasing their figures any minute, but industry estimates are indicating a $195.5M three-day for Marvel’s Black Panther and a $227M 4-day. That four-day is a wild number, some have it as low as $222M and others well north of $230M. Saturday raked in $66.4M.
To celebrate the success of the film’s opening, Ryan Coogler returned to his hometown of Oakland on Thursday night to surprise fans at premieres.
Chadwick Boseman, Coogler, head of Marvel Kevin Feige, EP Louis D’Esposito and the rest of the Marvel team popped up at the Cinemark LA and other theaters on Friday night to thank fans for coming out.
The power of Black Panther does not stay only on the big screen. Kendrick Lamar, who produced the entire soundcheck to the movie, and SZA have brought in 18million+ views for the track “All the Stars” from the album.
PLUS Black Panther’s Ryan Coogler has given back to the community. He teamed up with Synchrony Financial to award the Ghetto School Fellows program with a $50K grant. This is a non-profit program that helps aspiring filmmakers from local communities with a better chance at reaching their dreams free of change. It consists of a 30-month program where students visit sets, screen their film and guide them towards college.
The Hollywood community has also welcomed the movie with open arms via the #BlackPantherChallenge which sent children from all over the country to view the film.
