Could Chicago Become the 51st State?

Some republican lawmakers want Chicago to be the 51st state. Here's more:

The group of Republican lawmakers signing onto HR0101 feel Chicago and the state are at odds with each other when it comes to policies such as immigration, abortion, and gun rights.

“The reality is the city of Chicago is competing with New York City and L.A. and San Francisco, and (downstate is) competing against rural Indiana and rural Missouri,” said Rep. C.D. Davidsmeyer to the State Journal-Register .

However, the bill seems to be more of a protest than a reality, with Davidsmeyer admitting, “It’s more of a frustration of the policies than the true belief that Chicago and Illinois would be better off as separate states.”

Sounds like this is very up in the air still, but could you imagine if that happened? What are your thoughts?
