Milwaukee Boy Died from Coronavirus, First Pediatric Death in the City

It was confirmed last night that a 14 year old boy has passed away due to health complications related to COVID-19—the city of Milwaukee's first child death from the virus. This comes as Milwaukee County is closely monitoring a slight increase in coronavirus cases amongst the 18 years of age and younger population.

This case was being investigated by the Medical Examiner's Office of Milwaukee reporting that the boy had "'Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia and autoimmune hemolytic anemia.'" It was later confirmed via Twitter that "'this death had been ruled 'complications of infection with novel Coronavirus (Covid-19).'"

State data confirms that there have been two pediatric deaths prior in Wisconsin. Greenfield Health Department Director Darren Rausch told WTMJ-TV, "We were averaging for kids about five cases on average over a 7-day period. So an increase of 5 to 15 is certainly significant, but we still are dealing with small numbers."
