Fittingly, Illinois is home to one of the most haunted places in the U.S. That’s according to Conde Nast Traveler, which shared a list of dozens of the most haunted places to visit nationwide, including “hotels, abandoned insane asylums, Broadway theaters, and even a city zoo.”
In Illinois, the most haunted place to visit is Lincoln Park Zoo, located in Chicago. “As it turns out, one of Chicago's most popular attractions is also one of its most haunted, with much more than just chimpanzees roaming the grounds. From the 1840s to '50s, the heart of Lincoln Park served as the city cemetery, housing some 35,000 bodies,” Conde Nast Traveler explains.
