Authorities say an Illinois woman is accused of fatally shooting man because he declined to kiss her, according to reports.

Claudia Resendiz-Florez, 28, is charged with first degree murder. The Rolling Meadows Police Department launched the death investigation after receiving a call to an Arbor Drive apartment complex around 9:44 p.m. on October 14. “Once on scene, the officers were able to locate a male victim, James P. Jones, 29 years of age, who had been shot in the chest, and was later pronounced dead,” the agency confirmed in a press release. “Claudia Resendiz-Florez was identified as the shooter and taken into custody. A witness has been cooperating with this investigation and the scene was processed for evidence. At this time, it appears that this is an isolated incident with no threat to the general public.”

Resendiz-Florez had reportedly moved in with Jones and his girlfriend at the apartment complex. Cook County prosecutors said at Resendiz-Florez’ bond hearing on Saturday (October 16) that the three of them were drinking when Jones refused to kiss Resendiz-Florez, and instead asked to kiss his girlfriend, per the Chicago Sun-Times. Resendiz-Florez apparently demanded again that Jones kiss her, and allegedly pulled out his gun when he declined. Resendiz-Florez is separated from her husband. She is the sole caretaker of her three young children, Assistant Public Defender Courtney Smallwood noted.

Resendiz-Florez is reportedly due back in court Tuesday (October 19).
