It’s just about time to bust out the stretchy pants and sink your teeth into your highly-anticipated Thanksgiving meal.

Oftentimes people look forward to some of their favorite side dishes, including stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole and plenty more. That’s why Zippia sought the most popular Thanksgiving sides in every state. The career research hub determined that mashed potatoes “are once again king. Nine states opted for mashed potatoes as the best side dish on the table, the report found. Rolls came up second, with four states loving them the most. “In general, carbs are where it’s at– crescent rolls, stuffing, and dressing all made the map,” the report found. Here’s how Zippia figured everything out, in part:

“Using Google Trends, we determined what Thanksgiving side each state eats a disproportionate amount of. We examined over 20 Thanksgiving classics. From there, we determined what side is searched a disproportionately, high amount… We looked at the month of November 2020 to determine what folks are searching for the most in each state. Traffic for most Thanksgiving sides sky rockets on Thanksgiving day (Turns out, when you’re googling ‘how to make mashed potatoes’, so it most of America.)”

So, which Thanksgiving dish is the most popular one in Illinois? Zippia found that most Illinoisans gobble up mashed potatoes, the “king” of the Thanksgiving sides. Other states that picked mashed potatoes as the No. 1 side dish include Connecticut, Hawaii, Massachusetts and others. See the full report here.
