After 15 years of non-stop work in Hollywood, Glen Powell is following his roots back to Texas.
The Anyone But You actor is ready to leave the glamour of The Golden State behind and trade Rodeo Drive and the Hollywood Walk of Fame in for cowboy boots, honky-tonks, and countryside. According to Entertainment Tonight, Powell plans to make Austin, the place that he was born and raised, his new home base very soon.
The 35-year-old actor feels as though he's reached a point in Hollywood (driven by the success of 2022's Top Gun: Maverick and 2023's Anyone But You) where he can "now leave."
"It's like I've earned the ability to go back to my family." This decision was largely inspired by fellow Texas native and big screen star, Matthew McConaughey, who spoke with Powell about why he ended up moving back to The Lone Star State.
"He's like 'Hollywood is the matrix man. You plug in and it's all fake world.' He's like 'Then I go to Austin and I unplug. It's all real. Those are my friends, that's my family. My actions matter there.'" Powell also explained that, while he loves doing press for his movies and attending premieres, he finds it difficult to decide what's real and what's fake in Tinseltown.
"And he's [McConaughey] right. If you're here, you live in the matrix all the time. There's no separation of those worlds. And for me, especially as my parents get older and my niece and nephew are growing up, I want a separation of those worlds."
To make it official, the Set It Up standout purchased a house just 30 minutes down the road from his parents in Austin, where he recently attended a premiere for a movie he produced with his family by his side in his home state.
