Halloween festivities are making a comeback in Chicago.
City officials announced Tuesday (October 12) that Halloweek, part of the My CHI. My Future. initiative, would return this year. The festivities will return with COVID-19 safety guidelines in place for trick-or-treating and other activities from Saturday, October 23 through Saturday, October 30. Organizers planned the event with nine guidelines, including a mask recommendation for unvaccinated children, staying home when sick, and others.
Halloweek will be complete with the annual UPSIDE DOWN Parade, and the Arts in the Dark Halloween Parade. Chicagoans can also expect trick-or-treating and other Halloween-themed programs throughout the week, according to city officials. Halloweek goers can also expect “Halloween on the Block” pop-ups, the Campfire Horror Movie Series, candy and more.
Although organizers are still including COVID-19 guidelines, Chicago Department of Public Health Commissioner Allison Arwady, M.D., noted the city’s “fantastic” progress:
"We are so proud of how far our city has come in regards to COVID-19, and we are excited to celebrate Halloween safely once again in 2021,” Arwady said in a statement. “We have done a fantastic job as a city mitigating the effects of the Delta variant, and we aim to keep our numbers low as we head deeper into Fall."
